On Wednesday morning, President Donald Trump tweeted on various issues. Although he stayed away from the Charlottesville controversy, it started with a topic he has touched on before, Amazon and its collection of sales tax:
When it comes to mail order and online shopping, sales tax collection becomes mandatory when the retailer has a physical presence (like a shipping center) in a given state. Amazon was far from the only vendor to benefit from customers gravitating to this, but by virtue of its increase in shipping centers, the retailer now charges sales tax in every state that levies it.
The president had previously accused Amazon of not paying “internet taxes,” which do not exist:
North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un had been threatening to launch nuclear missiles at Guam, an American territory, before pulling back. North Korean state media had said Tuesday that the leader “examined the plan for a long time and discussed it with the commanding officers in real earnest.”
