Painting Of The Statue of Liberty Wearing A Hijab Is Receiving A Lot Of Harsh Criticism

A California congressman is receiving harsh criticisms from activists after he hung a controversial painting of the Statue of Liberty in his office.

Congressman Lou Correa was attacked by the group, “We the People Rising,” about this painting.

A high school student painted this photograph for a student competition, he drew the lady liberty with a Muslim hijab under her seven-spiked crown

According to The Orange County Register Correa “sees nothing objectionable in the painting”:

“You take it in the context of a lady, probably a Muslim American — with all that’s going on, she’s a proud American,”Correa stated over the phone from Jerusalem, where he was going to meetings a congressional information-gathering trip. “That’s what it says to me.”

On July 3^rd, “We People Rising,” an anti-illegal immigration organization, requested this painting to be taken down because it showed an inappropriate combining of state and church. Correa asked them to get him “a legal opinion that shows me it’s not allowed.”

Robin Hvidston spoke with OC Register and said that they can see that the student is very talented and “we wish her the best.”

According to The Register, “a photograph of a mural featuring Mexican American veterans from WWII,” won the first place and is shown in Washington, D.C. The Statue of Liberty wearing a hajib painting was the fourth place.

The complaints became more frequent including some “unspecified threats” which are being investigated by Capitol Police.

Independent Journal Review phoned the office, and the man who answered said that the painting is still hanging there.
